Windows Phoneは2019年12月10日に正式にすべてのサポートを終了します。 Windows Phone系OSを実行しているデバイスでは今後一切のセキュリティ更新プログラム、修正プログラムを受け取ることはありません。
もちろんマイクロソフトは2015年以降新しいフラッグシップデバイスをリリースしていないため、ストア機能を始めとした基本機能のサービスについても終了が予定されています。
これを受けて多くのWindows Phoneアプリ開発者は、Windows Phone向けに開発していたアプリをオープンソース化することを決定しました。

次世代に繋ぐ
Windows Phoneアプリが今更オープンソース化されたところであらたにWindows Phoneアプリを開発したいと思う人は少ないかも知れません。 しかしWindows Phoneアプリの多くはUWPで開発されており、多くはデスクトップのWindowsやXboxと共有していることを考えると、オープンソースを元に新しいWindowsアプリが生まれるきっかけになるかもしれません。
